Saw a post about going on a quest to get a stone for a family member. They talked about Olthois so I assumed they were talking about the Vault. I had a lot of hints otherwise but they still talked about Olthois so I had the Vault fixed in my mind.
It took us a while to get set up for it. Badmofo wanted to go work off some vitae before going and asked me to make a portal to BDC. I did and after I thought for a second I went too. Someone got confused and thought we were starting the quest and took the portal, surprise!
I did a little hunting and added a point of Stam, knowing every point is needed to survive the swarms of solders. Elder said 300 is what I need.
We finally get everyone together and someone made a portal to old mines. I thought we were going to take a portal to the Direlands from there. I was looking forward to learning a route back to the Vault.
We started running east, and then backtracked, then east again. I had no idea where were we were going but was trying to keep a mental map so I could do it again. We were running up a mountain and I found the right path, getting ahead of the others. They decided to go a different direction and before I realized it they were gone.
I had the coordinates but trying to get somewhere over the mountains is a real pain. I had to back track and find different routes. Finally Badmofo had to come find me. We eventually all got at the portal. I knew that the Direland many times had a camped portal so I was powered up.
We hit the portal and I started a long download. I kept getting messages "Lich lord fails to toss spell because you an invalid target." I finally got the idea that we were not going to the vault, but do a different place, a place I was not prepared for at all.
Well I was here, and barring lag, I was going to do my best. The first group of Liches fell and we moving forward. There was a large group of others ppl's there; otherwise there was no way we were staying.
We moved forward and I attacked a Lich. I saw another group run up. Everyone retreated but my IP decided to go into lag mode. I watched in horror as I keep swinging on a Lich, which was in all likelihood dead, while everyone moved back. I was surrounded. I hit 7 for my wand and 7 for portal. Fist refused to stop fighting. I heard someone die and I shortly followed. Arriving at the Lifestone Fist finally pulled out the wand, little late Fist.
Got a message from Badmofo, "I'm only going in as far as my body." This was bad, the two highest levels were both dead, recovery was going to be very hard.
I then got a message from the leader. "We will keep it clear for you." Now they were not as strong as the two victims so I knew it was going to be very dangerous for them.
This time I had an idea where the portal was. I took the short cut into the Arwic Mines to Old Mine. I followed ridgelines and found it in a few minutes. I saw a red dot coming from a different direction so I knew Badmofo had made it as well.
I messaged the team leader, "Is it safe?" He messaged "It is clear". Bad and I jump into the portal.
As soon as we got in Liches attacked us. Bad shouts "It's clear, my ass." I have no BP so I'm trying to avoid getting into too much but I help take out a few. We started forward and I got to my body as the group pushed them back. Another horde of Liches attack but we have enough to engage them.
This was fortunate as I was lagging again. I opened my body and clicked on my BP. Then waited out the hourglass. I got 2 items before a Lich decided to attack me. I took 40 damage but then it stopped. I guess someone attacked it and it changed targets. I got my stuff but now the Liches decide to take me out again. I ran back but another group of Liches were waiting for me. This time I was not lagging and my 7/7 got me out with a few hit points left.
I messaged the leader that I had gotten it all. I had not picked up the pyreal so I knew the body was going to be there a while, over 4 hours at my level.
Well time to work off the vitae. I was powered up so I ported to BDC. In about 10 minutes I had cleared the Vitae. For once BDC was not full. The hunting was good. I saw a few bodies. I mostly send messages asking if they need help. These bodies were in easy to recover places so I did not bother.
The bottom section was camped by a large group of mages and archers, no chance for loot so I stayed to the upper section. The upper can be quite dangerous, especially on the lower steps.
You get into a battle with a few and all the olthoi from the upper steps jump down to help out. So you start fighting 1 and end up fighting 6. I was burning stam bottles a lot.
I came out of one section and was attacked by a worker. I saw a few more getting ready to join in so I ran to a tunnel to make it a little safer. At the tunnel entrance was a body, a bad omen.
I was not having too much trouble but it was never ending. As I killed one two more replaced it. Then two ran down the tunnel in back of me. As they did a Noble joins the attack.
A Noble doing this is a rare event. Mostly they are killed as soon as they spawn. The only way they get here is if someone runs them out of the tunnel. Most players that cannot face a Noble don't go near them.
But in any case I was in trouble. My new armor was not as strong as my old armor. But had Strength V on it and burns 2 less mana stones. But critical hits from workers of 20 had become hits of 50. I'm now tossing Inv V on it.
At this point I made an error, I tried to run up the tunnel and get them in front of me. I could not get out and took too much damage trying. I should have knocked down a worker or a nymph and then ran into the hole. But to make a long story short, I died again.
This is no biggy as even without my bp I knew enough to avoid trouble and recover my body. I quickly ran back and got my stuff. Only had to fight 2 Workers and a Nymph. One at a time I could rely on my shield to protect me.
By the time I got everything I had worked off 2 points of vitae and was ready for revenge. I knew that everything that attacked me was now in the jumping pit, including the Noble. My plan was to jump in and run out. Then head for the far right tunnel where I could face them a few at a time.
Almost did not work out. I ran out of the pit ok and headed around a solder. Then the server did a "never mine" and I was running against the wall and the solder. I reversed my field running left then circled back to the right. As I ran down the hall, with the mob on my tail, we pick up two more solders.
My plan worked as only two soldiers got into the tunnel with me. The others, two soldiers, Noble, 2 workers and 3 nymphs were running against the wall. After dispatching the two soldiers I had cleared my vitae and was ready to take on the mob.
It helps that some Olthoi get bored beating on you. While Nobles and Soldiers will stay with you Workers will many times take a few shots and then wander off. After the Noble fell it was easy work to finish off the rest.
As I was getting them a mage/archer came out of the tunnel. There is a hard jump I have never tried that lets you take no damage and get to this tunnel. I'm going to have to practice it. Save that jump into mobs. He had died earlier and I had messaged him about it. He said he was going to do some stuff and get back later. He toss a heal on me and headed up the hallway while I looted. Message to mages, high-level fighters need stam not heal.
After looting I made an error. I did not track my time and my weapon was about to run out of spells. I mostly recharge when my mana gets fully recharged. Depending on how well mana conversion works I many times recharge with a full half my time left. Better safe than sorry.
As I came around the corner I saw a Soldier and Noble. I had expected the Noble as the one I fought had come from the upper levels. As I engaged a Worker ran in and joined the battle. After a few hits I heard the dreaded sound of my weapon loosing a spell. I had been improving my unarmed skills and had it up to 311 so even with a dead weapon I was going to win. It was just going to be a longer, more costly battle. With the other two beating on me it was not fun. Losing defender V was making it even worse.
It always seem like a Noble has an extra defense when it gets to within 10% of dieing. I always start missing badly about then. I was down to 50hp when it finally died. As a Worker had hit me for 50 earlier, I was a little worried. A few bottles and I was up enough to finish off the rest. Total loot for both Nobles was a few wands. Only one any good is a mana conversion VI, diff 255. I guess someone can use it.
Having cleared out the bottom I headed top side. Having BDC with only a few other hunters was an xp bonanza. After killing a few workers I found a pile of loot where a worker normally spawns. I thought, "Someone killed a worker and did not loot". I found some nice leggings and lockpick IV gloves, nicely id'd and inscribed for me. "Now why would some one id this stuff and then leave it". Duaaa it was loot off a body. (Smack head)
I messaged the person that had inscribed the stuff. He was at the top by the portal. He had been searching for his body for hours. I ran up and gave him his stuff back.
Then I hunted back down to the second to lowest step, where I had died. The body was still there. I messaged the owner. It seems she had been hunting for it with a group and they had given up. She ported in and I went up to meet her.
She was very grateful. I told her that I felt a kinship as my body used to be right next to hers. That got a laugh.
As we hit the step a mob jumped me. Again more jumped from the upper steps to join in. She toss a heal on me but I only had lost about 10 point, I was down over 100 in stam. I typed "Stam", she replied "I don't know that spell". Message to mages, Stam!
I got them finished off and did not have to hit the bottles. Running low on them. She gets her stuff and I made a new friend.
My new Archer
With Fist de Yuma well started and Fist de Mage at all schools I decided to get the archer going. He is an Archer/Life but with a self of 20 he will not be impelling any olthoi soon. Name Cliff Bowman
The first job was running him to Hebian-to. It was a lot easer with Bowman as he started with a run of 105.
I transferred a note from Fist to him and he picked up a Yumi. I fletched a few arrows and was ready to rock. Archers are the easiest beginning player I think. High melee defense and run to start. Combine that with long-range attacks and xp comes quick. Even hunters can be hit. Piercing vulnerability, run, shoot, run. Repeat.
He is going to need the melee defense, as his strength is very low.
Finding armor is a problem. I want something light but better al than 20. Nothing like that around so he is running around with the beginning cloths. Armor I from the Life magic makes it better than nothing.
After shooting up a few things he was getting careless. Shot at a few druges but there was more than the two I thought I saw. Just as they got close the armor I ran out. I was hit hard, tried to run, Lifestone.
Ooo hell I had forgot to hit the Lifestone, I'm in the wrong town. I had 5 minutes to get back or lose the Yumi. Going to use that run speed. I was close to the road so I knew I was not going to have a problem finding the body.
I got back in time and got my bow back. I was within shouting distance of the Lifestone but saw some sticks. My archer in Morningthaw has been looking for sticks to use with the fleching knife. Ran over to pick them up and see if the corpse there had any arrow heads.
Bark growl bark, Reedshark! Run Lifestone. Hell I'm back in the wrong town again. Quick run to Hebian-to. Body is camped by a Reedshark. It chased me for a bit but I was ready for it this time. I also hit the Lifestone. I wait just outside of his range. 5 minutes are up and my bow is lying on the ground.
Finally someone comes running up the road and the Reedshark gives chase. I run up and grab the bow. Then run in the opposite direction the Reedshark went. A few kills and I make second level. With no armor I'm killing a mosswart. Archers are overpowering. Cannot wait until 9lv and Item.
