Fist de Yuma - April 18, 2000

A leach

Over the last week a new leach has showed up at BDC. This one is a blatant leach. I first saw him as a 32lv and Sunday he was 37lv. He always waits until someone starts fighting and then steals the kill. He stole one from me on the ramp. Next time I saw him he setup to steal the Noble in the pit. I kept moving in back of him. He got the idea I was not going to tank and left.

Next time I encountered him while I was about to attack the Ramp Noble. It ran up the ramp. When I caught up I saw the leach had ran it off the ledge and was draining it. After I jumped down and helped finished it off two workers jumped me. While that battle was going "The Leach" jumped down, looted the Noble, and ran off.

I saw this leach Whosda Sunday. He was leaching as I had always seen him and never sharing with those taking the damage. Archer dies, I take damage, he takes loot. One fighter got so mad at him be took extra damage trying to run the Noble away from him, to no avail.

When I asked him to share he always came back with the same answer, "The loot was crap".

One time I told him to share with a fighter that was half dead in the fight. Whosda said he forget who the fighter was. I gave him the name of the fighter and hoped he shared with him.

So Sunday I'm had just finished a fight with a solder and Whosda came running by. He shortly returned. "There is a full spawn in the pit!" Meaning he needed a tank to get by the solders.

Not one to back down from a fight and a possibility of teaching this mage what team work is about, I agreed to help. I said I would need heals but most of all Stamina. He said he did not have a Stamina infusion spell.

Now here is a mage with high enough life skills to drain a Noble that never learned Stamina infusion! What a worthless @#$@#.

So the battle begins against 4 solders and a worker, no problem. Then three more join, problem. But they are all in front so unless I get sucked into the group I was ok. I got a few heals but stamina was dropping much faster. Whosda is tossing a few blasts in. A second fighter joins in the attack so the danger is less.

I'm fighting the last two solders and Whosda started looting! By the time I finish off the solders he has looted them all. I'm really angry so I say nothing. Those that have read my journal know I try not do say anything while angry. I will say something I regret later.

Back in Arwic I see Whoda pimping his loot for items. He is asking for items I have never been able to find. I'm calm now so I message him. "You should not loot in battle. I was more interested in the fight than the loot but others will take that very badly."

He said, "I have had others take my loot before. I healed you and it was not like you were going to die." Ok here is a total leach, who never fights, but clams to be able to tank Nobles, complaining about someone taking his loot. That was not his loot anyway.

Vassals, Shadows and Lugies (O my)

All my vassals were on at the same time yesterday. Never happened before. Solfin was in Old mine fighting lugies. I had just found some Fire VI pants Aluvian diff 178. He will take a while getting to 178 but he was the only Aluvian vassal I have.

I'm sure I could have traded it for something I need but he is a good vassal and I think vassals before myself. I told him I would go to Old Mine and give it to him.

It is a quick trip into the Awric Mine to the Old Mine portal. Solfin was surprised to see me so fast. I had just made the trip to Mayoi so I had a lot of stones. He needed some so I gave him a few.

He was using a fire weapon. I knew that lugies were resistance to fire. His electric sword was muled. I explained to him how some monsters have more resistance to some attacks than others. He took out a normal sword and I buffed it. Nice thing about Solfin, is a boost to the ego. Everything I do for him I receive a ton of praise.

He ran off to fight lugies and I waited for mana to charge so I could port. There was a player there who asked me if I would be his patron. He had been watching while I worked with Solfin. I had turned off my accept as I want to be picky about who I take on.

He was a 6lv mage by the name of "Haha Shadow". Now if you have not been to Old Mine a 6lv mage might last a second in battle. The first time went to Old Mine I was with Sidhartha. Sid was 19lv and I was 18lv. He died with one rock toss.

I do a lot on feeling. Even the one time I was ripped off I pretty much knew I was being scammed but what I gave him was worthless.

My feeling about this Haha Shadow was good so I said I would accept him. Don't ask me why, Sidhartha gave me a hard time about it. He was right but I have this feeling about Haha Shadow.

First thing was how to get him out of Old Mine. He had that answer already. He did not have anything of value so he was going to kill himself to get back. He was lifestoned in Tou-Tou.

While I was talking to him someone asked if I would help against the shadows outside the mine exit. The person asking was a fan of the journal. Never turning down shot at shadows I agreed.

Full power up takes a minute or so, very colorful. We hit the exit and started our hunt. The party was a few others, Solfin and I. The first target was an LT. Someone ran it down to us and we killed it quick. Another LT came running up and it died as well. Then a P floated over.

I'm not too happy about a P's being there. I took a few spells but it fell after a minute of battle. I started to loot. An unarmed weapon and gem were on the body. Before I could pick up anything another P decided to take revenge for his buddy. I took a hard blast and had to do a little running and healing.

Solfin and I had a grand battle with it. The others were notability absent, if we had a brain we might have run as well. I was lucky that he used fire as my Fire Protection V cut down the damage. He also hit me with a de-buffing spells, big deal. That was enough for us to get him. I was still within one spell of being killed.

Solfin asked me why he could not hit the P. LOL Solfin is only 18lv. I was glad he even survived it. He also had the smarts to loot the other P after I was chased off. I had thought one of the others had got the loot.

That was the last of them so I ported to Tou-Tou to see what I could do for my new vassal. My feelings about Haha Shadow are starting to look good. He did not want anything! While talking to him I found he had a 26lv archer on a different server and was trying out Morningthaw. If he sticks with it he will be great. If not I lose very little.

I get a message from Solfin. "How do I get back to Arwic from Old Mine." Darn I thought he had LS recall. There is no easy way back and between Ash gromnies and Shadows he would have a hard time with the run to Qbar.

I ask Jarad if he was still linked to BDC. If so I could use him to get my tie back if I broke it to get Solfin. It was but he had not learned Summon yet. The Saint has summons but had gone offline.

Jarad had a friend who could summon so we were fixed. I hit the Arwic Mine portal and tied to Arwic. A quick run to the Old Mine Portal got me there. I guess a few people were trapped because after I opened up a portal a crowd rushed to get into it. Shadows are making Old Mine a hard place to get out of.

After I tied back to BDC I showed Haha Shadow a few places to hunt. The Saint was back on line and I asked him if he had any low-level item for Haha Shadow. The Saint had started a mage a while back and had not used him. He loaded Haha Shadow with the low-level items he had.

I then logged out to bring Cliff Bowman in. He could hunt with Solfin and Haha Shadow. Elder was at the LS and I introduced Haha Shadow to him. Elder buffed my bow with VI's. I cannot wait to get item for the bow, really rocks. I get item at lv 16 and mana conversion at 35. I had to take fletching at lv5 as arrows ran out too fast. There are never enough skill points.

The three of us then hunted along the beach. Next time we will go to Mayoi and hunt bigger stuff. Haha Shadow hunts there on the other server and knows the best places. Every time Fist goes there he see shadows and 20lv bodies. Should be fun.

Someone needs to take mages in hand. Haha Shadow does not have stamina infusion. I tried to teach him but he did have the comps. Yes, heal is good but Warriors need Stamina!

Hallway of Death

There is a hallway leading into the pit. It's guarded by a Solder and Worker. I have seen a lot of bodies in the hallway. Because so many PPL's are going to the pit it is mostly safe. Where trouble occurs is when, for some reason, it is left alone for a time. Most of the Olthoi's spawn outside of the pit. Archers and mages jump over the pit and the Olthoi fail the jump and end up in the pit. After that it is target practice.

My vassal "The Saint" died in the hallway the day before. I know now how. I'm headed to the pit mostly to leave the bottom section. To many archers and mages there. I headed down the hallway ramp. At the exit of the hallway was a Solder. We both charged and I was about 10 feet from the exit when I met it.

I now dub this hallway the "Hallway of Death". There are very few that can live if attacked this way.

As soon as the battle started a horde of Solders joined in. I would like to say how many but I lost count. I'm quickly surrounded. The save was that there were two Workers and a Nymph with them. You might ask how having more was a save?

I had been trapped a few times this way. I have tried two ways out. Running is the first. It does not work. You cannot get out and you just get hit trying. Next is porting. That might work if you start out with a lot of hit points. Mostly the lesser defense you get by pulling the wand gets you killed first. (No shield, no weapon defense, no defender V) With the new portal death bug/nerf it was not an option.

Lastly was something new we figured out. The idea is to pick the weakest one, kill it and run over the body. Of course you want to pick one that lets you go where you want in a straight line. Any twists or turns will get you trapped again. Manly the lag will get you.

I choose going to towards the pit. Mainly because that was where the Nymph was. With a full hit I can take down a nymph with one crit. It died quickly and I ran over the body to freedom.

Of course I still had a mob on my tail but after jumping over the pit I was free. Then I hunted them down one by one.

We are Family

Stayed up all night so I could have a crack at some Noble loot. Sometimes at 4am you can get a few alone. The archers and mages had gone home so the fighters were filtering down to the lower levels.

I found myself paired with a fighter from my alliance. He was a 40lv unarmed. The way is seems to work with nobles is the one attacked seldom gets the loot. Better defense or something.

In the first attack he took the damage I got looting rights. I picked one item and pulled back, letting him get the rest. That set the tone and for the rest of the night we shared. In the last battle I was the target and he got the rights.

He opened up the body and told me to take first pick. There were a few items I could not ID so I took a chance and picked up a ring. I put on the ring but my lore was too low. It was a good and bad sign. I have picked up a lot of 250+ lore items. Worthless to me.

I put on my arcane lore cap, boosting me to over 200 and tried again. Aaaa a strength V ring! I have Strength V on my armor so will not use the ring in battle. When traveling I was using a strength IV ring. Also I lose my armor shirt a lot in death. Now I have something to use with the backup armor and traveling.

I also find myself at over 200 burden while selling loot. Few more points of strength then will be a big help.

Saw a person praising another for sharing loot. He said no one had ever done that before. I really hope is catches on. It is so much better when we work together.
