Fist de Yuma - April 24, 2000

For a long while I thought I would not have any stories. One funny story was it. Then thing broke lose and I have too much to write about.

Leach gets his, and then shows me.

I was doing my normal loops around BDC and ran in the leach Whoda. Other players had sent me tells on how spot on I was with this guy. I was at a place where a Noble and a lot of other stuff show. Because of the other spawns leaches tend to avoid it. I have seen a lot of archer's being chased off by a nymph after trying to steal a Noble out from under me. "The Noble would have been mine if the Nymph had not attacked me," states the 27lv Archer. (Balance, what balance)

Knowing Whoda wanted me to tank so he could leach I moved away. He moved behind the wall. I said "I though you could tank it." He said, "I can with two buffs". Right then a Noble spawns and targets him through the wall. I run up and start pounding on it. I timed it the other day. Takes me 40 seconds to bring down a Noble.

Whoda must have thought it had targeted me as he ran out from behind the wall. I'm thinking I was wrong about him being a drain mage. I only see him use war spells. His heals must have come from a Life wand. So I apology for my condemning is lack of a reg Stam spell. His looting in battle is still unforgivable.

Two hits later Whoda was dead on the floor. I waited for him, keeping it clear. Then shared the loot found. Will that change him? No. But I will not change me because of him.

A day later a fighter and him were waiting a spawn. I messaged the fighter to leave so Whoda could not leach off him. We waited at the top of the ramp. Sure enough Whoda ran to the top as well. But then set himself and fired spells at the Noble. Somehow he had wangled a Mati robe and between the long range shooting and the robe he did solo it.

It happened again.

I was fighting with a new friend. It was late at night and we were getting in a lot of kills. As we were sharing so there was no worry about who kills what and we were having fun. He got full of loot and decided to port out.

We were in the pit, having just killed a few solders. He ported and I did not feel like waiting for the Noble, not knowing it's last spawn. Waiting is useless as before spawn a mage or archer with less xp than I need for my next level will come and take it. (Yes balance, or so they say.)

I'm running up the ramp and find the solder that spawns there. I killed it and started up the second ramp. So I'm not at full stamina. I see the Noble on the ramp. As I got closer what looked liked a Solder with the Noble was the other Noble. As soon as I engaged I saw three worker run down the ramp to join in. Lets see 126+126+ 60+60+60 = 432 verses my 51. Well, my lucky day.

This was going to be hard but I had a few factors going for me. They were all in front, in a narrow hall. I think only three could get to me at a time. The going thought would be to take out the workers first, as they are stamina drains. But I felt that in this case getting the Nobles first was better.

After the first Noble fell I was on the edge of death. I drank a bunch of heal and stamina potions to keep me alive. Then started in on the other Noble. Loot was negligible but the battle was royal!

Server killed me.

After that I was feeling pretty good. I had even got a screen shot. Not that anyone would doubt me but it is good to have proof. I was killing with abandon and headed back to the pit.

I have written about the hallway of death before. I was not going to be trapped in it again. As in entered the hall I saw the trap forming. I did not stop to fight the first thing but ran around it. The horde converged on me but my 300 run quickly thwarted their plans.

I ran to the pit and jumped over it. The pit was full! Solders standing shoulder to shoulder. Probably a Noble in there as well. Two Solders attacked me. Two Solders are nothing. Suddenly the Solder backs up into the pit and somehow I went with him! I'm standing on top of the mass of solders in the pit!

In hindsight I should have jumped out or ran over them to the tunnel. But I was in shock, waiting for the "Never Mine" to put me back where I belonged. The "Never Mind" never came and the solders were able to make room for me. I dropped the rest of the way into the pit.

The lag caught up and I started swing at the original one I was fighting. I broke lock on it and tried to turn to the one blocking my way to the tunnel. But in that few seconds I was down 100 points and knew I had no way out. I tried to run, knowing I would never make it but it was my only chance, as slim as it was.

Running kept me going a few seconds longer. I actually got into the open a few times, only to have the server pull me back in. The one time I was able to run I was in the back of the pit away from the exit. I could hear the twang of an archer trying to help me out.

It was soon over and I was at the lifestone, minus my 4 master robes, Reg VI ring and my life IV orb. I quickly ported back to BDC. I try to recover bodies as fast as possible. I have seen too may times where something prevents recovery but where faster action would have avoided the loss. The Reg VI ring is irreplaceable. (and with 5% vit unusable)

The archer sent me tells. "I wanted to yell, port Fist port". I told him how the server tossed me into it. I made the jump to the ramp and was running down. I had killed a few workers but still had 5% vit. I checked after I died. It takes over 10k to work off a point of vit.

On the ramp was the Noble. Now if there was ever a time I did not need to see a Noble it was now. It took me a bit but the Noble fell. Fortunately nothing else joined in the battle. I did get rid of a point of vit.

I hit the pit expecting to fight my way in. But all that was left was a half-dead Noble. It seems that a 32lv archer can kill all the solders and Noble without any damage. (Yes there is balance, only if you're an archer or mage.)

The scenario I presented a while back is coming true. More and more high-level fighters are starting Archers. We do have one common complaint. They are boring to play.

Archer starts a Melee

I'm fighting in BDC and there is a 30lv fighter that keep following me and leaching off my battles. He seems to know me. I asked him why he is not getting in his own fights. He said he is too weak to fight on his own and needs the xp. I asked him how he knew me. He told me the name of his other PPL. It was a high-level archer.

It is funny, this fighter fights like a bow-user, not a fighter. So is it the bow-user or the person behind the PPL that gives Archers such a bad rep. A bow-user was ranting on the board the other day.

He is a great bow-user with an overpowering bow. He got ported out so he could not kill the General, wanaaaa a bunch of 10lv killed it. If he had not been ported out he would have killed it in two shots, wanaaaa. Don't you understand, he is a god bow-user, his name should have been displayed to the world, not some lowlife melee guy.

Thanks to the fans

I got a lot of good comments about this journal. It is always appreciated. This is a thanks to all for your kind words. It is strange to have high-levels come up to my 10lv Unarmed Fist de Yuma on Thistledown. One dropped Unarmed III gloves on me. Be a while before I can use them but I will put then to good use when I can. So Thanks from the bottom of my heart to all my Readers.
