Shadow wars part II
I was playing my archer and had just hit Arwic when I saw the messages about a new Shadow invasion. An 11 level archer with no item magic was not going to be much use so I logged out and logged in Fist de Yuma
Fist de Yuma had logged out in BDC. It had been so full of ppl's earlier I was afraid a portal storm might start. I was fully buffed and ready to fight as soon as I logged in.
I got a message from someone about the coming invasion. We both figured that Baishi was a possible point of attack. I ported to Tou-Tou and from there to Arwic and the subway.
There is no Baishi portal so I picked a town close and ran to Baishi. I know there is a portal in Mayoi to Bashi, going to have to find it. As I was running an old mate (K??? K???? KK for short) logged on. I messaged him about the shadows. He said he would start scouting.
KK me and Sidhartha had hunted the shore east of Arwic a long while ago. We were all about 18lv then. He did something I had never seen an archer do before, melee golems. After were done for the day I said, "You sir are a warrior!" and added him to my friends list.
I got to Baishi and heard a few rumors about Shadows but I had no idea where. I got a message from KK. SE of Lin was a large group of Shadows. From what I read a bigger battle was brewing in Baishi but I missed it. A few quick portals and I was in Lin.
I went to the coordinates KK had given me and found a pass full of orange dots. Mostly Shadows but a bunch of other stuff as well. There was no one else around so I decided to do a draw and kill.
At first it went well. I had drawn a Shadow and two Matties, killing them with no problem. As soon as that battle was over another Shadow was running at me. I ran over the ridge and setup to take it on. I saw another Shadow was also coming but was to busy fighting to take a close look.
As the Shadow fell an LT hit me. I was a little down from the first battles so it finished me off with little trouble. For once my death items were all that fell, all 6 of them. I also had the coordinates and was over the ridge and away from the spawn. Recovery was quick and easy.
At my body I met up with KK. We decided to take them on again. I also messaged Sidhartha. He was coming but without item magic it would be a while. He sent messages to his vassals.
I told KK to stay on the other side of the ridge and I would run them over it. He misunderstood and stayed on the wrong side of the ridgeline. Two LT chased me this time. I killed one but the other went after KK, killing him at the bottom of the mountain. I was chasing and killed it right after KK fell.
I was able to draw and kill a few but there were too many to do more than that alone.
KK's Lifestone was far off so it was going to take a while. A few of Sidhartha's vassals showed up along with another fighter. After KK got back we had to power to wipe them out. The main attack was a dagger fighter, KK and I with the mid level archer's backing us up. No mages with us. Only one death and he quickly recovered.
After we got the main group the side groups fell with ease. Sidhartha had gotten to Lin so KK and I ran over there. It was a fine reunion. The three of had never got together since that day on the beach.
I had been on contact with Killean during all this. Our heavy hitters were not on and he was trying to find out where the main point of invasion would be. Mayoi and Qbar were two possibilities. Tou-Tou was another as it was the southern most spire.
We decided to head to Mayoi as it was closest and we could pick up supplies. There was a crowd around the LS in Mayoi. Someone said there a mob of Shadows was close and Killean, was fighting them. Sid said he needed supplies before he could attack so we ran over to the tired mage's shop east of Mayoi. We had to kill a few Shadows on the way there.
As soon as we arrived we got the message that the generals shadow had been killed and the Shadows were in retreat.
Trip to the Spires
After a little running around helping people I was in Arwic ready to log. I heard that a portal to a Spire was close to the entrance to Old Mine. I took the Arwic Mine portal to Old Mine to check it out.
There was a group at the exit portal talking about a mob of shadows just on the their side. I powered up and hit the portal. There were no Shadows at the portal but two LT's a little ways away. We quickly defeated them and I pick up a nice Yumi, BDIII SK III Defender III. Only normal 33 mod and no attack + but might be better than the longbow my archer has. (68% +8% attack, no spells) I will test them out against some monsters tonight.
Close by was a portal. We went in and ended up in a Spire in the middle of who knows where. The map would not show the location. We had gotten a warning that you could walk off the Spire and to be careful. I walked out to the end but did not see landmarks to tell me where I was. It was a long way up.
Someone in the spire said they had wiped out a group of Shadows and the portal appeared directly after. Someone else talked about a battle but I did not get any details. This may have been where the General's Shadow was killed.
I was glad to see we had the right idea in killing the group of shadows. We just picked the wrong group.
I counted 9 bodies at the bottom of the spire so the walking to your death part was a problem. No idea where to look for the bodies.
There was a portal leading out. The portal read Heartlands. Sounded safe so without powering up I took it. I was regretting not powering up because while I in portal space I saw many orange dots. I was having visions of landing in the middle of a group of Shadows with nothing on but a robe, piece mode and no weapon equipped. I was relived to see all the cows.
Nothing to see here so I ported and logged in Arwic.
