Fist de Yuma - May 2, 2000

This and that because of bad IP

At times my IP gets very bad. I go yellow every minute and red ever so often. Disconnects are common. When that happens I have to play with care and if really bad, not at all.

It started when I was playing Mage Tank. Another mage was around. I did not think he played very well but that was only after a short observation. I got a little deeper into the woods than I should have trying to find hunting room. The Mage had followed me.

I see him set up to shoot some Banderlings. I would have stood my ground until the one I was aiming for died, then run, return, repeat. I would use electric attack. As he was about to attack, I go yellow.

I come out of lag with three Banderlings beating on me. Now Mage Tank has melee but at 40 that it is kind of weak. Still I might have been able to run off ok. The killer was a reedshark was there too. I was quickly sent to the Lifestone.

I tried to retrace my path and find my body. I found the mage but he had no idea where the attack occurred or where my body was. He had shot and ran without returning. Not quite the way to kill a banderling.

After a while I found someone else's body. He was not on so I could not tell him where it was. Shortly after that a reedshark surprised me. Two crits while I was running left me with two lost bodies and no armor.

After an hour of searching I give up. I headed to Cregstone to see if I could get some more armor. No luck there. Lag is getting worse and worse. Decided to see if Qbar had anything.

In Qbar I lucked out. The shop had a dillo coat. The jeweler had a few low level items to replace my losses too. Now my lag was hitting very high ping, when I was pinging at all.

As I was close to the lugi fort I decided to see if I could learn to drain. I don't respect drainers much but with two or three seconds between command and action there was not much I could do.

I will say this. A 12lv mage can gain a few levels nicely this way, unless some mid level lamers decide to take it all. To pass the time we were putting out a Foxworthy list of lamers.

You might be a lamer if:

You are in a dungeon and find the next highest person there is half your level and you stay.

You always wait until someone else engages before attacking.

You perch.

You bitch about not getting a kill over a 52lv unarmed when you are a 35lv unarmed and the 52lv was the one getting beaten on by the Soldier.

When the unarmed explains he has twice your experience you tell him to go to a place twice as hard, and you are in BDC.

You camp all day to get stuff to sell on e-bay.

When you have a choice of heal or leech, you leech.

You try to get people killed to cut down on the competition.

You loot others kills while they are still fighting.

You think because you are a higher level you are a better person.

You curse a person out because they will not give you their leggings so you can "look at them."

You bitch about being screwed on a trade, and then turn down an offer to undue it.

You think killing something trapped in a pit is the same as fighting it.

You think archer and melee are nicely balanced.

You expect your demands to be buffed by a mage to be instantly respected because you are doing them a favor. After all they earn xp for it.

You see an Archer/Mage ambushed by more than one attacker and you don't help. After all Archers are just kill stealing lamers and the Mage will not buff you.

You never share with the tank because they don't need stuff anyway.

You have all the great self protect spells, but no other protection spells.

You a macro'ed a mage to 10lv before playing it.

You started in a draining room and did not thing else until 15lv. Then moved to the crater to drain.

You think stealing is just playing an Evil ppl.

You charge for helping others. (Real money on E-Bay or otherwise)

You think it is cool to help a brand new player level up to 30 by buffing and drain/perching for a few days. After all you now get a load of xp from him.

You find a vassal has been stealing but refuse to remove him because he is a good xp source.

You create a ppl with a famous name so players think you are they. As in the few Pyreal Rats running around. (Don't try with Fist de Yuma, I have them all.)

You swear to someone just for stuff.

You think giving stuff is all a patron is about.

You think because you have a column you are special. (Has not happened but LOL it is tempting.)

You are a lamer if:

The only life spell you have ever tossed is drain and harm.

You steal

You cheat others

You make a mule with a high level's name to better cheat others.

You swear to someone to get stuff, then delete it after muling the items.

________

A mid-level mage brought a 1lv in. (I did not check his level but was buffing with V's) First level was bragging about a life skill of over 100. I did not know about the level V buffs he was getting. He started getting kills over all the other mages there. Of course he made 3 levels in 10 minutes, bragging all the way.

He started in about how great he was. About this time a lugi tossed a rock thought the wall and killed the buffer. After that he did not do as well.

The lamer was not new to the game. (He knew about lever restrictions in BDC) But he had no idea how to play a mage. Never experienced getting run down by a Reedshark. Never had a Fizzle, resist, fizzle, resist, Lifestone encounter. By the time they are done he will be ready for bigger and better kills, without any idea the work it take the real mages to get there.

For that matter all the mage there had been there from first level. I left as soon as my lag let up. They even had macro mages there, Mages being run by a program to target and harm all day. Mage still had the beginning cloths on and was 15lv.

While I'm piling up bodies on the road to Tou-Tou and feeding the gunnies on the Eastham beaches, they sit and drain. Very lame. But I did buff up my Life skills so the two support mages are ready to go to work.

After two days my lag gets better. I had worked hard a few days before and wasted a lot of pyreal getting BD VI. It seems my 227 buffed item was really to low for VI spells. It was on about the 7th try with one taper that I got it.

Trying to get HS VI did not work. 10 trys with all tapers and nothing to show for it but wasted time and comps.

So I decided to head to BDC and see how many points I could add to item. At about 500k a point this was not going to be fast. I decided to put BD VI on the weapon just for a test. I got it on the 6th try.

Man this is great! I'm doing much better damage. Now I'm hooked and only want to use BD VI. Problem with buffing is fizzles, not to mention burn. I started the day with 50 red tapers. At the end of the day I had to borrow a red taper to toss summon for someone.

I toss BD VI by; take off my endurance V ring, coordination IV necklace and helm. Then put on my Focus IV necklace, Self IV ring and Arcane Lore hat. This lets me replace my weapon and shield with my Item V orb.

I toss the BD VI (with a lot of fizzles), HS V and defender V. I take off the Self IV and put on Endurance V ring. Remove Arcane Lore hat and Focus IV necklace and put on coordination IV necklace and Helm. Replace orb with weapon and shield.

Depending on fizzles this takes a minute or two. Nice thing about knowing a dungeon is knowing when and where it is safe to do that. I had a problem with buffing when I was at the Vault. If it got really bad I could jump outside and finish the buff. When they made the outside very bad, I had to leave the vault.

Now I'm going to pore all points into Item for the rest of this level (3mil) and the next. (6.5 mil I think.) After I can toss my VI spells with few fizzles I'm ready for the vault. Then I will pore points into Lore (460k a point) until I can stop using the lore hat.

Sidhartha's vassal (Po) asked me to give him a ride to BDC. I was going to play my Archer for a few hours so I told him to play with care. Before I left the server I decided to see if the family needed anything in the Lin hall.

It was a good trip as a family member gave me a coordination V ring! Now I can hit a little better. Another family member needed acid IV. The mule I had there did not have it so I logged one in the Awric hall. I found some acid IV cloths and messaged Robin of Locksly to pick it up in the Awric hall.

Shortly after Po showed up. "Fist, can you help me find my body." Well so much for running the Archer. I give the acid IV item to one of Sid's mules to give to Locksly and headed to BDC.

Po led me down the left side. I asked him to describe where he was when killed but he had been running a lot and had no idea. He kept looking in a certain type of cave. This cut down in the search a lot, as there were only a few of them.

After he led us nowhere I told him to follow me and headed to all the dead end caves I knew about. It was in a side passage, on the right side, not left. It was in a little used cave with no spawns so not many knew about it.

I messaged Locksly as he had been searching as well. Then I asked Po if he would like to see the Noble. It took him about 6 tries but he finally made the jump to the ramp. We headed it to pit.

The Noble was very camped. A 48lv Archer that kills Nobles with 2 shots was there too. Noble spawned and was dead in about 3 seconds, Archer looted. I got one swing, a miss.

After that I took him to the lower section and show him the spawn spots and the swiss cheese wall. There were a few camping the Noble there but not as bad. I was buffing my weapon (Fizzle, Fizzle, Fizzle) when the Noble spawned. I saw it chasing Po but I knew the others would kill it without my help.

Before I got my BD VI a nymph spawns on top of me. A nymph has a hard time hitting me so I took no damage changing to my weapon and killing it. After my buffs Po came up and said, "That was fun!" He is a 35lv fighter and has a fine future in the game with an attitude like that.

I did get to play my Archer for an hour. Nice thing about having Life is I can heal someone rather than leech. I imagine there is a little surprise to see me change from Bow to Wand and go into support mage mode. Then change back to bow and kill in two shots the same type monster the unarmed fought for over a minute with.

I have a great patron on the Thisledown server, Astrangeone. Every day he is bring me notes or items. After the day of draining my mages had enough lore for item III stuff. He loaded up a pack full and let them pick out what they needed.

Fist de Yuma also got a vassal from Astrangeone. As I'm running a lot of PPL's he also help out the vassal while I was not there. Fist de Yuma (jr) has all but one weapon type to use. All brought by Astrangeone. Only thing missing is an electrical weapon. A fine hard working patron as there ever was.

Fist de Yuma (jr) is a loner at this point. But Astrangeone has a standing offer for any help he needs. It is good to know he has backup.

If there is one thing I hate it is a stupid player. To see them make the same error over and over again is frustrating, but when they get me killed it makes me mad. It is generally a Bow using player that does this but a mage will do it as well. I'm resting or buffing. The bow user/mage comes up next to me. He tosses off an arrow/spell at two Reedsharks or three Shoths. He is quickly killed or run off and I'm totally unprepared for the attack.

With sticky is can be really bad. Two V shoths chased me a ways to kill me after one of these. Only satisfaction is the "Can you help me get my body" messages I get later.

When I set up for an attack and another is close, I always warn the other player. "Ready?" is all that is needed. I guess they are afraid I will steal the kill if they let me get prepare.
