Fist de Yuma - March 20, 2000

Weekend stories

Got my "blank" kicked

I got a call from Salvant asking for help. He had a body in a bad place. For this I needed a little change in setup but did not know it at the time. The problem was we were going after stuff that needed a cold weapon. I have one muled but that was not going to do me much good.

A player that could not go with us made a portal in Lin. I was hoping he was going to stick around a while because I had no way to get back if I died. We ended up in the Direland along the west coast.

After a short wait Salvant showed up and led us to the dungeon. We passed all sorts of things a fighter dreads, magic tossing creatures. I was following along the flank and lagging as usual. He led us up to the top of a hill and into a group of fire monsters.

Within seconds Salvant was dead. I tried to hit them but could only do 1 or 2 points of damage with my weapon. The three of us ran into the dungeon portal to escape. We buffed up and ran out to try again. After a few futile attempts we regrouped at the edge of the mountain.

The other fighter offered me the use of his weapon and I gladly accepted. We made a charge to clear them away from Salvants body. As we started this battle some golems joined in. First one, then the other fighter when down. I was low on hp and made a run for it. The lag was very bad; I never quite knew what I was fighting. Everything was jerky and very confusing.

I don't know what got me but I did not get far before I was at the Tou-Tou Lifestone. I lost my sleeves along with some death items. It was a big loss as it has my strength IV buff. I quickly ran to the Lin and met up with the others. They needed to mule some items before going back but I was anxious to get my sleeves back. Mage made a portal and I went alone.

I was hoping that my running from the battle got me out of range. I was right and recovered my items quickly. I cleared out a few things, running into the portal as needed until the others arrived. With a little luck we got all the bodies back.

We made one final attempt to clear them all out when some more golems joined in again. I had a fire protection V shirt on so I'm sure it was the golems that got me before. I was hit hard a few times and made a run for it. I was down to 3 hp and had my wand in hand. I ported out just as the other three killed what was after me.

I messaged them what happened. They said no problem. They had enough to go into the dungeon now. I still had the borrowed weapon. I was asked to go to Lin and give it to a vassal of the fighter I borrowed it from.

WAR!

I had some hints that something big was going on. I'm new to my alliance and not in a lot of the com-links. It seems that the big "B" got killed and he did not like it. He used the excuse that he was looted to call for a "Kill and Loot" order. This was in spite of the fact that the looter was from a different alliance and returned his items. (For which he was rewarded with death.) So no matter how you look at it is was revenge for an honest kill.

It took a while of observation to see that Requiem and the big "B" is a bully. Do what I say or I will beat you up. I will stop making excuses for him. The people in his alliance follow his lead. A few more mature (Jann, Wartorn) players don't but they are the exception.

My alliance decided to counter him with a few members turning red and attacking Requiem. No looting was a hard rule. To loot is to be removed from the alliance and put on KOSL. (Kill on Sight, Loot.) With Requiem following revenge orders, things got of hand. A group of PK's decided to go white.

That should have ended it. But when you are a bully you have to get in the last punch. Requiem had camped the alter, killing and looting those trying to go NPK.

This was the last straw. Something had to be done. Requiem has the power, we have the numbers. A large group led by Killean and Elder went to the alter and turned red. The hunt was on.

There were groups formed, each with a mission. First they did a show of power. There was a mass invasion of towns, declaring an end to the Requiem tyranny. All Requiems were hunted mercilessly.

I spent a lot of time chasing around the countryside trying to catch up with them. I finally found them right where I stared, Arwic.

I did what I could, buffed weapons to begin with. Requiem finally came out to meet us at Old Mine. I was buffing someone's bow and missed the beginning. But so much going it did not matter. We had our people in Fellowship groups so they had a better picture of what was happening.

I did not see Pryeal Rat die but he was white when I did see him. That meant he had died shortly before. Shiner was doing some damage but quickly logged. I heard that Pyreal Rat died three times. The big "B" was a no show.

One Requiem was popping out of the Old Mine, tossing some spells and running back when damaged. Elder saw this and went into the portal ahead of him, one dead Requiem.

After the big battle the battle groups each went to a different place to setup ambushes. They had a good setup. Each group was lifestoned in the same place. An item mage was tied to each of the places they needed to go. Killean was the central commutations center.

There were scouts everywhere and people at key portal spots.

I finally got where I belonged, by Elders side. I would buff his armor and weapon while we waited in ambush at Tou-Tou. When they left I had to do a lot of running around to get to them. I must have taken 10 trips into the Old Mine subway. My exploring of this land had made my chase very effective. I generally arrived within minutes of the group.

The end result? That will depend on Requiem sticking by their word. This is what they agreed to.

1. No more looting
2. LOD is a safe zone, no pk'ing (the first word was no pk'ing in Olthoi spots, this appears to be false.)
3. No camping of Asherons alter (another safe zone.)

This was also a dry run for war with the real evil. An invasion is coming. It may be that an army such as we formed will be needed on the near future.

New Friend, a Warrior Mage.

Many archer and mages are leaches. It may not be their fault. They cannot solo a creature and must kill it before it gets to them. This requires two things, form a team with a fighter, or leach off others. There is also hiding behind walls and draining, or shooting though bugged walls or into pits.

This leads to a natural lack of respect for mages and archers by fighters. Archers are not as bad because they can get melee defense up enough to fight, if they have that mind set. Only their bigger hitting power makes this useful. I have ever so often gone into battle without a shield. Big error. I take a lot of damage.

Mages mostly have very little melee defense, most don't even have it trained. So imagine my surprise to see a mage soloing a noble.

There are three nobles in BDC. Two of them archers and mages have the advantage. One the fighters has the advantage. That one is on a long ramp coming out of the pit. No place to hide. If a fighter does not tank to let the archer or mage leach, they cannot take it. This is the noble I get most often.

I was coming out up the first part of the ramp where a solder spawns. I had killed it and was about to loot when a mage ran around the bend with the noble on his tail. He stopped and fronted it. I was in a bad mood and decided to loot my kill before I helped. Yes, I can be mean ever so often. Mostly I'm not, but I'm human and will give in to that side.

After I got my loot the mage ran again for a short few steps, turned to face it again. With a blast he killed the Noble. Now this was not an all powerful bully camper like Shiner. He was 42lv. I talked with him and told him how he gained my respect for his soloing the Noble and how sorry I was to delay in helping.

We talked and bit and went hunting in different places. I saw him again at the pit a while later. I jumped in and headed up the ramp. As I made the turn I saw the Noble was there. I took a few steps and she turned to me. I heard the dreaded sound of my weapon spells dieing.

This is a nice weapon I got a few days before from UR III. It has +8% attack. I was getting kills over players I could never get kill over before with it. But, it had no spells I can use. It is has a race requirement of Aluvian. (Spelling I know)

This was the second time this has happened and I knew I was in trouble. Not deadly, just was going to have to drink stem and heal to win. I still had the mage on my retell so I asked for a little help. He quickly ran up the ramp and tossed heal and stem on me. God there is nothing like a good mage. (grin) Quickly added him to my friends list.

Battle to end all battles.

A lot went on Thursday including getting a new weapon from Ur III. It has magic but I'm the wrong race to use it. It does less damage than my other but has +8 attack. I used it to get a Noble kill over a 48lv drain mage and a 40lv archer. Even with a 301 unarmed skill I miss more that I hit on a Noble. Got a first strike of 75 twice yesterday and still missed the loot before I got this.

The real story was before I got this weapon. After losing out on a Noble kill I decided to hunt the upper levels. For some reason BDC is heavily camped this week. (Spring break?) The upper and lower sections are filled with ppl's and getting even a few kills is hard.

I jumped to the top step after coming out of the pit. I could see a lot of orange dots but no white or red, this is rare today. I jumped down a step and found myself in the middle of 5 nymphs. I hate getting hit from the rear so I run to a tunnel to funnel them in a few at a time.

As I hit the tunnel a Solder came out of it. Now I have a solder in front and 5 nymphs on my back. I get the Solder about halfway down and a worker comes down the ramp to join in, then another one.

I think I have the patch to thank for living though it, less damage from rear shots than normal. By the time I have the Solder and two Workers dead I'm getting low on stem. But I kill nymphs in just a few hits so I was not worried.

I have a habit of getting my stem up before moving after a big fight, this saved my ass. As soon as I left the tunnel I took 62 points of impact damage. A worker jumped on me from the upper step. Another ran out from a side passage. While fighting those two a Solder jumped down from a step to join in. After a hard fight two more workers jumped me. I messaged Ur III (who was perched outside for a while) "They will not leave me alone." Ur III wrote "You must have put on Olthoi cologne this morning."

After cleaning this up I decided to jump to the lower section, as I still could not see anyone. The jumping pit was clear so I leaped in. I did a quick heal from the damage and saw a nymph just outside of the jumping pit.

As I attacked the nymph a noble jumped me. My lag was better for once so I was able to change targets, something I have had difficulty doing from time to time. A Solder joined in and a Worker attacked me from the rear. So I'm fighting a Noble, Solder, Nymph from the front and a Worker on my back.

I have never had a battle like that before. I thought I would keep at it until I got under 100hp. When I hit 100hp the Noble was ready to die so I kept at it. The Noble dies and I get the solder. I'm ready to kill the nymph when another Solder joins the fight. I see on my radar a line of orange dots fighting to get around the wall and attack me.

Now I'm getting low in stam and hp so I run to a room that insures the mob cannot get around the wall and puts a wall at my back. I drank three stem potions and two heals before I could take on the last Solder/Worker/Nymph left standing.

By the time I finished up this battle most of what I had been fighting had rotted and I had to pick up the loot on the ground. My timing was good because as soon as all this was done about 6 ppls ran around and slaughtered the group against the wall.

Before all this I looked at my points. My goal was to add a point of coordination. I needed 300k to add it and had 200k saved. After this battle I had enough to raise it. I estimated about 10 minutes total.
