Fist de Yuma - May 16, 2000

Comedy of errors

My friend Randolph was in BDC. He had died because of a greedy Bow-User. There was a large spawn of soldiers and a Noble. Most attacked Randolph. The Archer killed the Noble, looted it and left Randolph to his fate.

I met Randolph at the top and use my mana to buff his weapon. Mine was about out but felt I could do ok anyway. We recovered his stuff and was working on his vit. I was very close to 100% burden as I had rushed from town to help him. Still had not muled my items.

It started out as a very good day. Lot of PPL's there but I was getting my share. Had a few good battles. Fought about 7 Olthoi at once around the pit. Three Soldiers, three Workers and a Nymph. I rested and then jumped into the pit to fight a soldier.

While in the air my piercing protection ran out. I took a single swing and my Heart Seeker V ran out. Then two Soldiers jumped in and the Noble spawned. A hard fight without my major protection and a major weapon buff. I wish there was some warning of a pending loss.

Another battle I was at the bottom section before the pit. Ran into three Soldiers and two Workers. While fighting them I saw Skinner fighting a large mob of at least 2 soldiers plus others and the Noble. I finished off mine and helped get the noble. It can get crowded with Olthoi at times.

There seem to be periods of packed PPL's and no one there. It is very dangerous when no one is there, but also quite rewarding.

A player was there earlier that uses a staff. He is not a bad guy but I get a lot of complaints from others about him. He is able to get most kills over a Noble if an archer or mage is not camping them. He has the timing down and will kill all three for hours at a time.

Now if I'm the strongest player there I take a few then let others have one. After I think I have my share I leave. But most players don't share this view. They feel that because they can take it all, they should take it all. I tried to point this out to the staff user.

I think I made some headway, like I said he is not a bad guy. I was wasting time camping the Noble, as I wanted to see if I could get a kill over him. A little competition never helps. I have in the past but not today. It was shortly after he left that I started having major battles.

The first big break I had was after getting the jumping pit Noble. It had a very nice set of leather leggings. Al 120 imp IV and a bunch of bane's, diff 150. It only weighs 580. I'm starting a mage and this will be ideal. The second item was my first 112% bow. My archer will be ecstatic.

After this I was overweight and ported to Awric. In Awric I got the call from Randolph about his troubles. It was very late and I was full of stuff I had to mule, but friends come first. I sold the sellable stuff and got notes. Then I ported to BDC.

After recovering his stuff we started working off his vit. I tanked without swing two soldiers and that got rid of two points. We were at the edge of the pit. I try to funnel the soldiers into the hallway to keep them in front of me.

A soldier jumped into the pit and Randolph ran in to get it. As soon as he did a worker jumped in and attacked his back. I attacked the worker but I knew Randolph had a good chance of dying. I could not believe he did that. I will not go to the center when a full spawn is on.

Another soldier jumps in and attacked him. Sure enough he died and as soon as he did two more Soldiers jumped in and the Noble spawns. I felt with a dead weapon and this many I had better do the beat feet move. They followed me, Noble on my tail. But it pays to have a 303 run and I got some distance on them.

There was a soldier in the hallway and I did not dare run up the ramp as I knew the other Noble was there. I stopped and started battle with the two Soldiers and the Noble. I got one soldier but was not hitting the Noble well at all. I have a nice base cestus and Speed Killer II on it. But without my VI and V spells it is not a very good weapon for Olthoi Nobles.

I was really missing my defender VI. I was getting hit a lot. Was way down and decided to hit the heal and stam bottles. My finger slipped and hit the 7 instead of the 8 key. 7 as many of you know is my hot key for the Item wand.

So now I'm really getting hit and decide to just port out as I had the wand in hand. I hit 7 again and nothing happened, ooo no lag. I keep hitting 7 and I'm soon dead. At the lifestone I see the problem. I had switched to a different tab to put bane spells on Randolph's shield. 7 on this bar is lighting Bane IV.

Well that was stupid. I don't have my armor shirt but no biggy I felt. With vitae I could not put on some buffs and item VI spells were out of the question. Ported to BDC and ran down to the pit. I jumped across hoping the Noble was not there. Just my luck it was. Well even without my armor I think I can take it.

As soon as I attacked the other noble and soldier came out from behind it. I was dead in seconds. Stupid death number two. I should have known that what I fought before had not returned to the pit.

Now I get a little smarter. Ran over to the hall and got my backup armor. This armor has less spells on it but has a higher AL. But I was worried that I could not take two nobles and a soldier that were in all likely hood camping my body.

I got a message from an Archer. It turned out he was Randolph's patron. It seems that after getting killed Randolph called out all the big guns he knew. Randolph's patron told me my body was camped by two Nobles and asked if need help getting there. I said no and I would join him soon. I was wrong, with no helm I was set for a quick kill and now lacked a melee defense buff. Two workers, something I would back hand as I walk by normally, jumped me. I almost died and had to run.

I healed up and ran by the workers. Had to get the two bodies before anything else happened. By the time I got there the Archer had cleared it out. I recovered my stuff and he cleared out the pit before I could get into it. Randolph recovered and ported.

Now I needed to clear the vitae so I could get back to normal. Of course now the place is packed again and even workers are hard to find. I pick off a few by themselves but even a single Soldier is giving me trouble. Lack of buffs and lesser spells, not to mention vitae, was making me very weak.

I engaged a Soldier and a Worker comes up behind me. I feel I can take the soldier and then the worker, after all I'm the great Fist de Yuma. Well with IV spells vs VI and 8% vitae I was not so great, hello Lifestone.

I have never had more than 5% vitae, let alone 13%. Never had more then two deaths in a single hunt. Well at least I had the two good items off the noble.

The return

I had Po help me mule my backup armor and other items. I was able to upgrade his armor as well. This lightened up my mules a little.

Hit BDC without my normal confidence. Still 8% vitae and could not put on many of my items. The worst thing was not having my Unarmed V gloves. I might have to put a IV in my pack just in case.

My first loop worked off three points. I got a call from a player saying he needed help. He was fighting a Noble and had burnt about all his stam and heals and was losing. He said he was in the hallway. I had to recharge my weapon but with V's I was not getting to fizzle even with vitae. He was screaming for me to hurry so I did not take the longer, safer way. I jumped into the pit. That striped off about 60 points of damage alone. I was attacked immediately. I expected to see the battle but there was none.

Fist screamed as he was hit several times and I finally ran off with 28hp. One soldier stayed with me. I hit the heal drinks and fought him off. As the fight was not in the hallways I figured he meant the Ramp. By this time he is screaming that BDC is not that big and he could have ran though it twice by now.

Quickly made my way to the ramp. He must have been having a really bad time because after all this the Noble was still at half health.

For most of the day there were not a lot of ppl's in BDC. Very dangerous as everywhere in the bottom section became a trap. Other players saved me in the first bad trap I fell into. I saw a Soldier around the corner. I attacked it and from out of nowhere two more Soldiers some Workers and the Noble were on me. I was trapped against the wall and losing health and stam very fast. There was no way out and I was just trying to do as much damage as I could before dying.

I just about had the noble down when three other players joined in. Without their help I was done for. I gave them a hardy thanks for saving me. I also let them get the loot.

Next time I faced the Noble I was determined to fight it on my terms. I knew it was there and had a pack of guards. I ran over and got its attention. I then headed to the cave ramp at full speed. Before setting this up this I checked to be sure the ramp cave was clear. Two soldiers spawn there. When I came down the cave ramp I saw Paco' body. Paco' leaves them around a lot. He is a nice guy but is an archer who can kill nobles but cannot fight workers, especially with vit.

As I headed around the corner to the cave ramp, mob in tow. I saw Paco' picking his body over. I could not put the mob on him so I had to stop and fight them in the open. Not what I had planned. I was fighting the Noble a Soldier and two Workers. In the tight mouth of the cave ramp I can take them two or three at a time with no problem of back shots. In the open it is a little dicey.

It was an exciting battle and Paco' joined in. Unfortunately the Worker he was hitting took exception to it. I heard him scream and then die. After I finished them off I waited for Paco'. He came quickly and recovered the body.

The second trap was like the first, but this time I was without vit, had my VI spells and unarmed gloves back working. I saw the Noble running against the wall. Only thing around was a nymph. I attacked the Noble and was quickly mobbed by three Soldiers and two Workers. The Nymph also joined it. They were waiting just off the radar screen. Had to hit the stam bottles but the issue was not in doubt this time.

I was there for a while this morning. Filled my packs so much I had to keep my armor on, no room for anything. Nothing worth keeping other than an arcane lore IV ring. The rest I sold or will give away in Lin.

My vassal Jarad was there for a while. He directed me to a Noble he could not fight by himself. This gave me a chance to give Jarad the two heads I got. He will use them for trading items I think.

The bottom line to all this is BDC is a dangerous place. Without the proper equipment even a high level can have a deadly time of it. If you go there and don't see many players, expect to battle 4 to 10 at a time. Be ready to run and know where to run to.

Don't let your body get camped by two Nobles. Also while there are many good archers like Paco' and Randolph's patron, there are also many greedy sobs that will get theirs, and leave you high and dry.

Cashing the keys

My vassal Jarad had a lag death around Awric. He contacted me about replacement BP. I had some stuff but it did not match color wise. I said I would keep my eye out for better.

In a week of hunting I gathered up 14 keys. With spare weapons, notes, mana stones and comps my packs are kind of full. Even with a combat strength of 220 I start out with 80% burden. The keys were becoming a problem, as I had no room for anything else.

Sidhartha lives in Crater but does not have item yet. His vassal Guinnes does. I met Guinnes in Eastham and got a ride. As soon as we got to the Crater we met up with another vassal of Sid's, Po. The three of use headed down to the chests.

I had never been there before and never fought a magma golem. With my cold weapon and buffs I did not have any problem with the first one I faced. I was very lost as they knew the route and I was just following. I was glad I had my Fire Protection V Shirt.

When we hit the chests they were well guarded. One magma came out to face Guinnes and Po and I took on the others. Man I hate drains. I got them but was very damaged. I took a chanced of not healing and jumped in to help Guinnes as Po was dead. Next time we wait for Sidhartha.

We cleared out one more magma and got to the chests. In all I pulled about 70k in junk and three great items. Unfortunately for me the item were all great for others. Sidhartha got a Life VI orb and Jarad got a great BP and exceptional sleeves. The color even matches.

Cannot say I was disappointed. The three items were outstanding and 70k buys a lot of mana stones.

Playing my archer a lot now. Need to get him to 16lv and Item. Kind of worried about my other PPLs. None of them took missile, as for the most part it is a waste of 8 points. If they put in new stuff that requires missile they are in a bind. But then most players made in the last few months don't have missile either.

If they fix specialization things will be looking up. My lore is at 177 raw and 211 buffed. Another 15 to 20 points would really help. Fist de Yuma specialized 4 things. This makes him very weak in some places. Having it to do over again I would have Creature. If they up the curve enough it will be worth it.

Bodies and more bodies

I have been playing Cliff Bowman with his new 112% mod Yumi. I worked my way down the beach from Tou-Tou to Mayoi. After some hunting in the hills of Mayoi I finally made 16lv and got Item.

I had been talking to Jarad while doing this. I asked him how many vassals he had. Zero was his answer, an oversight on my part. Cliff Bowman was still un-sworn. I ran to Lin and ported to Tou-Tou then Awric to meet Jarad. After swaring to him I logged in a mule to get him to rank 2.

I logged in as Fist de Yuma to check on some stuff. As soon as I did I get a massage from Po. One word "Help". He had a gotten killed three times. Then when he ported in two soldiers had been lured to the top and killed him again. He tried again, same result.

He forgot to tell me this. I buffed up and ported in. I will normally have my buffing items on and put combat items on when I get there. For some reason I took off my Self , Focus and Lore items and put on my combat items before porting, pure luck that I did. When I was in the portal I could see an orange dot. I hit my weapon and got it equipped before I was attacked. In combat mode, and without vit, two Worker are quickly dead. Po ported in about the same time and joined in. Got a key off one body.

Poor Po had no armor. Before I came in I asked Jarad if he wanted to help. He was still selling and said he would join as soon as he could. After we killed a few Workers Jarad showed. Jarad went searching for Po's body and I took Po down a safer rout. I tanked a few and let Po work off the vit. Lot of vit, took him about 2 minutes to kill a worker.

We got one body and the another was camped by a mob of Solders, Workers and the Noble. Not a smart thing but I did one of my crazy stunts and jumped in. As soon as I hit I ran out the hallway. I checked what had followed me and it was only two Soldiers and a Worker.

It was a crazy battle. As soon as I killed one a new one would make its way out of the jumping pit to join in. I was fighting two Soldiers and a Nymph after killing at least three Soldiers. Jarad ran out of the pit with the Noble on his tail. He is not quite ready for a Noble yet. But he stopped and fought it as he saw I could not help.

It must have been getting the better of him because he soon asked for help. By this time I had killed one Soldier and had the other one half dead. I finished it off and ran over to the Noble. The nymph was still beating on my back but it was more of a stam eater then any damage.

That was a good thing as between the jump and the battles I was under 100hp. But I was also under 75 stam. A xbow man joined in the attack on the Noble. I asked him to take out the Nymph instead. To his credit he did.

I did not get his name and should. He did get to loot Soldier I had killed but a looter got most of them. Hate looters. I have never seen this xbow man before but it is a rare player that will stop hitting on a Noble to take out a pesky Nymph.

My plan was to open the Noble's body and let Jarad loot it. But the looter was standing there and I could not take that chance. I found Quick V shoes diff 188. Jarad has a 160 or so lore but it is doable. I gave them to him. Felt he should have gotten looting rights anyway, he fought it longest.

When I get the xbowmans name I will be sure to post it here.

Tale of two mages

There are two mages camping the pits of BDC now, Obo and Whoda. Both are drainer's. But the similarities ends there. Whoda is a mage that can drain a Noble but does not have a spell to add stam to a fighter. He loots in battle and only cares about one thing "Whoda". Obo does not leach and will fight if needed. Whoda is a leach from day one and never shared a thing. Today he no longer needs to leach and, like all users, discards what he does not need.

Yes, Whoda has graduated from leach to arrogant SOB. And you thought I only felt that way about bow-users .

Obo on the other hand is always willing to help. Being a good player he know the right help and has it ready. He has taken Soldiers off my back while I'm fighting a Noble, then charged me with stam. I could not imagine Whoda doing it, or even knowing what to do.

Today I thought Whoda was going to do something nice. I got a tell from him. He had a 2-7 unarmed weapon with attack and defense pluses. Asked if I wanted it. I said yes. I thought maybe he is becoming human. Then he demands a Focus VI for it. I should have known. When I told him that a Focus VI item is worth more than the weapon he got mad. This guy camps Nobles all day and never shared a day in his life. I camp on very few days and share most every kill. If anyone is going to get a Focus item it is him. Total Lamer.

I hope Obo gets every kill.
